Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
There are many reasons people seek a consult for rhinoplasty, which is a procedure to improve the outer appearance of the nose. The most common issue is their nose is too large. There are many ways to measure the proportions of the nose, but a rhinoplasty surgeon can naturally identify what changes will make a nose more in line with the rest of a patient's facial features.
Reversing facial aging often involves repositioning or restoring volume to key areas of the face. While facial fillers are a good option for some cases, they cannot compare to the results of a facelift, a procedure used to lift and tighten skin and tissue around our cheeks and jawline. Patients who have had a facelift, even years ago, have an unparalleled rejuvenation of the lower half of their face.
Many patients come to see us asking for neck rejuvenation. Often, there are features of aging that are more amendable to having a face and neck lift together and we go though great detail explain why this is a better option. Occasionally, patients can achieve adequate rejuvenation by limiting surgery to a necklift. These patients have excessive laxity of the skin of the neck, too much fat tissue below their chin and banding of the neck muscles without any severe jowling of the jaw-line and dropping of tissue in the cheek area.
Brow and Forehead Lift
A brow and forehead lift is used to rise the brow and place it in a more aesthetically pleasing location. In women, elevating the brow, especially near the temple, conveys a powerful rejuvenated appearance. This procedure is often combined with a upper lid blepharoplasty to remove excess skin from the eyelid.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Surgery around the eyes can be broken down into upper lid and lower lid procedures named blepharoplasty. Upper lid surgery is recommended for patients with too much skin on the upper eyelid. In extreme cases, the skin can hang down and rest on the eyelashes when you eye is open. These conditions worsen with age, sun exposure and even have genetic factors. Lower eyelid surgery is recommended for patients with excess skin in the lower eyelid leading to wrinkles and bags under the eye which are a result of fat bulging past a weakened fascia that normally holds the fat in the proper position.
Liposuction treatment allows patients to permanently remove excess fat in areas resistant to exercise. Good candidates for liposuction have areas of fat deposits that are out of proportion with the rest of your body, areas of fat deposits that do not go away with diet and exercise – so called “diet resistant fat” or are patients who are obese and seek alternative to gastric bypass surgery.
The cheeks are an important feature of the mid-face that can project a youthful look when they are full. Fillers allow us to augment lost volume with minimal downtime. For patients who are interested in a more permanent solution, malar implants can be used.
The chin is an important feature that has a wide variation of growth. It can have an important impact on how people perceive your nose, especially in profile. When your chin is small, it can make your nose look bigger so chin implants can be used to restore balance to your features.
Otoplasty (Ear Pinning)
Ear pinning or otoplasty is recommended for children with prominent ears to prevent the teasing and taunting from other children that can lead to psychological trauma. The general consensus to to consider it at the age or 5-6 as the ear has reached about 80% of its size at that point.
Adults are equally important candidates for surgery if corrective surgery was not pursued earlier in life.
Keloids are caused by scar tissue accumulation. This frequently occurs along the top curvature of the cartilage but can also be on the earlobe. Removal of the scar tissue can be done under local anesthesia to restore the natural contour at the edge of the ear whether the keloid is on the cartilage or earlobe. The main risk is that the keloid can grow back.
Breast augmentation using breast implants can give a woman a more proportional shape and may improve their self-esteem. Women may choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery for a variety of reasons including changes in breast size and shape following pregnancy, weight loss, age or they feel their breasts have always been underdeveloped or unequal in size. Whatever your personal reasons, breast augmentation surgery is the most popular way to improve breast shape and size, restoring self-esteem and that youthful appearance. Good candidates are patients who are bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too small leading to poor fitting clothes and swimsuits. This can be something you have always had or noticed after weight loss or having children.
